Chronicle by Josep Lluís Burguera.
The Salesian house and community of Tibidabo now have a new director in the person of Miquel Lluís Armengol i Barniol, who succeeds Joan Codina i Giol. The appointment and inauguration ceremony took place on July 25th in the Chapel of the Martyrs at Tibidabo.
It was a fraternal gathering held within the framework of a Liturgy of the Word, presided over by the provincial inspector, Fernando Miranda. Present in the small chapel were the entire local Salesian community, Salesians from other communities, and staff from the house.
During the celebration, passages from the Salesian Constitutions regarding the role of the director were read, along with the official act of appointment and the Word of God, to give appropriate spiritual context to the event.
Inspector Fernando Miranda emphasized that this was a meeting held in a spirit of faith, not just a simple change in leadership, but a continuation of accompaniment as brothers among brothers. He affirmed that God empowers each brother — including the director — to carry out the mission. He also expressed his gratitude to Joan Codina i Giol for his years of service as director at Tibidabo, with both joyful and challenging moments.
After making his profession of faith, the new director signed his letter of acceptance and embraced both the inspector and the outgoing director, amid warm applause from all present.
In his words of acceptance, Miquel Armengol thanked everyone for the trust placed in him, remarked that the greatest gift he took with him from his previous house in Terrassa was the quality of human relationships, and expressed his hope to live this new stage with confidence.
Miquel Armengol i Barniol is a native of Puig-reig, a town in the Catalan region of El Berguedà, where he was born in 1956. He studied ecclesiastical and theological sciences in Barcelona Martí Codolar and at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome (UPS). He has held leadership positions in the Salesian houses of Barcelona Horta, Mataró, and Terrassa.
